In short
- ✓Capture the product page first: photos, price, crossed-out price, size chart, material and the seller name.
- ✓Your order, return request and support chat sit behind login, so they need capture in your own browser.
- ✓Photograph and film what arrived next to a tape measure and the label, before you send anything back.
- ✓Start with Shein support; if that fails, use a chargeback or the European Consumer Centre in your country.
- ✓Designers: secure proof of your original and a sealed capture of the listing before you file an IP notice.
What to capture on Shein
Product page
All product photos, title, description and the product code (SKU). This is the promise the item is measured against, and it can be edited or removed at any time.
Price and discount
The current price, the crossed-out price, the percentage and any countdown timer. If you claim the discount was misleading, you need the page as it looked on that day.
Size chart and details
The size guide with measurements in centimetres, material composition and fit notes. Most size and quality disputes are decided on these numbers.
Seller information
Whether the item is sold by Shein or a marketplace seller, the seller name and store page. It tells you who is responsible for the item and who your claim is against.
Order and support chat
Order confirmation, order details, return request, refund status and the customer service chat. These are behind login and need capture in your own browser.
What arrived
Photos and a short video of the parcel, labels, the item and its measurements. Keep the original files and do not edit them.
Why Shein disputes are won or lost on evidence
Shein lists an enormous number of products and many of them are online only for a short time. Prices change during flash sales, listings are replaced by new versions, and marketplace sellers come and go. When you later say the item was not as described, support will compare your complaint with what the listing says now, not with what it said when you ordered.
That is why the rule on this site is simple: capture first, complain second. Once you open a dispute, the listing may be edited or withdrawn, and your screenshots are easy to dismiss as edited images. A sealed capture of the page as it was is much harder to argue with.
The product page also holds evidence you did not create yourself. Customer reviews often include photos and comments such as “runs very small” or “fabric is see-through”. If other buyers describe the same problem, capture those reviews too: they show the issue is not about how you wore or measured the item.
Who you are actually buying from
For customers in the EU, Shein’s marketplace is operated by Infinite Styles Services Co. Ltd., based in Dublin, Ireland, according to the company information on Shein’s EU website. Items can be sold by Shein’s own selling entities or by third-party marketplace sellers, and the product page shows which one.
This matters for two reasons. First, the seller is the party responsible for the item matching its description and for your legal rights. Second, if you need outside help, a cross-border complaint against an Irish company goes through the European Consumer Centre network rather than your national authority alone.
- Capture the “Sold by” information on the product page, not only the product itself.
- Save the order confirmation email, which usually names the seller and the order number.
- Note the date, time and your country version of the site.
Size, quality and “not as shown”
The most common Shein complaints are items that are much smaller or larger than the size chart, a fabric that is thinner or different from the description, or a colour and cut that look nothing like the product photos. Under EU law, goods must match the description the seller gave, and you have a legal guarantee of at least two years for items that do not conform.
How to document the item that arrived
- Film the unopened parcel and the shipping label, then the unpacking in one continuous video.
- Photograph the item laid flat next to a tape measure, measuring the same points as the size chart.
- Photograph the care label and material label, and any defects in close-up.
- Keep the original files from your phone, with their date and location data, and do not edit or crop them.
Your photos only prove something when they can be compared with the promise. Put your measurement next to the size chart value from the captured product page, and the label composition next to the captured description. That comparison is the core of a strong refund request.
Fake discounts and countdown timers
In May 2025, the European Commission and national consumer authorities in the CPC network told Shein it was suspected of breaching EU consumer law. The practices they listed included fake discounts, pressure selling with false deadlines, missing or incorrect information about return and refund rights, and misleading sustainability claims. Shein was asked to propose commitments to fix them.
Separately, in July 2025 the French consumer authority DGCCRF fined the company responsible for Shein sales 40 million euros for misleading commercial practices, including price reductions that did not respect the reference price rules.
For you as a buyer, this means discount claims are worth documenting. Under EU price indication rules, an announced price reduction must refer to the lowest price in the prior 30 days, with limited exceptions. If you believe a “was” price was never real, capture the page with the crossed-out price and timer, and capture it again on later dates.

Designers: when your design appears on Shein
Independent designers and brands have publicly reported finding copies of their work on fast-fashion sites, and in 2023 a group of designers filed a lawsuit in the United States alleging Shein copied their designs, which Shein disputed. Whatever the platform, the evidence you need is the same: proof of your original and proof of the listing.
- Your original: dated design files, sketches, your first publication (shop page, social post) and any registration.
- The listing: a sealed capture of the Shein product page with images, SKU, price, seller and date.
- Scale: search results or similar listings, each captured, if the item appears in several places.
Shein accepts rights holder notices through its Intellectual Property Notice Portal, which asks for the type of right, registration details where applicable and the location of the listing, including the product SKU. Capture the listing before you file: a successful notice usually removes it, and with it your proof of what was sold.

How to capture Shein evidence properly
A screenshot is an editable image with no reliable date. A forensic capture records the full page, its source code and network traffic, seals everything with SHA-256 hashes, and adds an eIDAS qualified timestamp and a Bitcoin anchor, so anyone can later check that nothing was changed.
With GetProofAnchor you paste the public product page URL into the web app and receive an Evidence ZIP with a PDF report. The starter pack is a one-time 9 euros for 3 proofs, with no subscription. Your order, return and support chat are behind login, so the server cannot see them. For those, the browser widget on subscription plans captures what you see in your own logged-in browser.

The complaint path, step by step
- Contact Shein customer service through your order, describe the problem and attach your photos and measurements. Keep the chat and the case number.
- Use the return process within the deadline. The legal withdrawal period in the EU is 14 days from receipt, and Shein’s return policy may give longer; check the current terms for your country.
- For a defective or non-conforming item, make a written claim under the legal guarantee and ask for repair, replacement or a refund.
- If you paid by card or PayPal and the refund does not come, open a chargeback or buyer protection claim with your evidence pack.
- For a cross-border complaint, contact the European Consumer Centre in your country, which works with its Irish counterpart for free.
Your national consumer authority also collects complaints and uses them to spot patterns, even if it does not resolve individual cases.
Mistakes that weaken your claim
- Returning the item before you photographed and measured it.
- Relying on the product page still being there when support reviews your case.
- Sending cropped or edited screenshots instead of the original files and a sealed capture.
- Missing the return or chargeback deadline while waiting for a reply.
- Accepting wallet credit when you wanted money back, without checking whether you had a choice.

Frequently asked questions
Is a screenshot of the Shein product page enough?
It helps, but it is easy to dispute because it can be edited and has no reliable date. A sealed capture with a qualified timestamp is much harder to challenge, especially once the listing has been changed or removed.
Who is the EU company behind Shein?
According to Shein’s EU company information, the marketplace is operated by Infinite Styles Services Co. Ltd. in Dublin, Ireland. The actual seller of your item is shown on the product page and in your order.
Shein offers wallet credit instead of a refund. Do I have to accept?
When you withdraw from a purchase within the legal period, EU rules say the refund uses your original payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise. Read the offer carefully before accepting credit.
How long do I have to return a Shein order?
The legal withdrawal period in the EU is 14 days from receipt. Shein’s own return policy may allow more time, so check the current terms for your country and keep proof of when you sent the return.
My design was copied. Should I report it first or capture it first?
Capture first. A successful IP notice usually removes the listing, and with it the evidence of what was sold, at what price and by which seller.
Can GetProofAnchor capture my Shein order history?
Not with the server capture, because orders are behind login. The browser widget, available on subscription plans, captures what you see in your own logged-in browser.
This article is general information, not legal advice. Consumer rights and deadlines vary by country and by seller, so check the current Shein terms and, for larger amounts, speak to a consumer organisation or a lawyer.
