The most common OLX scams in 2026

OLX runs classifieds in Poland, Romania, Portugal and Bulgaria in the EU, and in Ukraine. The scam scripts are the same across these markets and change only in details such as the courier brand or the payment method.

• Fake buyer, fake OLX delivery link: a buyer agrees to your price without questions, asks to continue on WhatsApp or Telegram, and sends a link to “receive payment” or “confirm OLX delivery”. The page asks for your card number, CVV and a code from your bank. That code authorises a payment out of your account.
• Fake seller, advance payment: an attractive item below market price. The seller cannot meet, asks for a bank transfer, BLIK or a deposit, and disappears.
• Fake seller, fake checkout: the seller refuses OLX’s built-in delivery and sends their own “secure payment” or courier link, which is a phishing page.
• Fake support: after a failed attempt, a “consultant” from OLX or the bank calls or chats to “fix” the transaction and asks for more codes.

First steps if you entered card data or paid

1. Call your bank on the number printed on your card or in your banking app, block the card and ask them to stop pending payments.
2. If you gave away online banking login data, change the password from a trusted device and check linked devices and mobile wallets.
3. Do not delete anything: not the OLX chat, not the WhatsApp conversation, not the SMS codes and not the email confirmations.
4. Do not click the link again and do not reply to the scammer. You do not need to open the phishing page yourself to capture it.
5. Start capturing evidence now, then report.

Under EU payment rules, you must report unauthorised payments to your bank without undue delay and at the latest within 13 months. Be aware that if you confirmed the payment yourself with a code, the bank may argue it was authorised or grossly negligent. Clear evidence of the deception helps your case.

Why capture first and report second

Reporting is essential, but it has a side effect. When you report a listing or a user, OLX may remove the listing and block the account, and the chat history can become harder to access. The scammer deletes their WhatsApp profile or number. Hosting providers take phishing pages down. What your bank and the police need most is exactly what disappears first.

Capture the listing and the profile

OLX listings and user profiles are public pages, so they can be captured directly from their URL. Copy the listing URL from the browser address bar or use Share in the app. Note the listing ID, which OLX shows on the listing page.

• The listing: all photos, the price, the description, the location and the publication date.
• The profile: name, member-since date, response rate if shown, and all other active listings.
• Search results: if the same photos appear under different names, capture those listings too. It points to an organised scheme.

Capture the OLX chat (behind login)

Your OLX messages are only visible when you are logged in, so no server can capture them from a URL. Open the conversation in your own browser on the OLX website and capture it as you see it. Scroll up to the very first message so the capture includes the first contact, the agreed price and the request to move to WhatsApp or Telegram.

If you only use the OLX app, take screenshots of the whole conversation on your phone as a minimum, then log in to the website on a computer and capture the same chat there.

Capture the WhatsApp or Telegram conversation

Scammers move you off OLX precisely because OLX filters and monitors its own chat. The WhatsApp or Telegram conversation is often the most important evidence, because it contains the phishing link and the pressure tactics.

1. Take screenshots of the full conversation on your phone, including the contact’s profile screen with the phone number or username.
2. Export the chat. In WhatsApp, open the chat and use Export chat from the chat menu (Android) or from the contact info screen (iPhone), ideally with media. Telegram offers chat export in Telegram Desktop.
3. Save the exported file somewhere safe, such as your email or cloud storage, and keep the phone itself unchanged.
4. If you use WhatsApp Web or Telegram Web, you can also capture the conversation in your own browser, like the OLX chat.
5. Only then report and block the contact. Do not choose to delete the chat when blocking.

Capture the phishing page and the payment trail

Copy the exact link from the chat by long-pressing it, without opening it. The phishing page is a public URL, so it can be captured server-side, which means you do not need to visit it again. Do it quickly: such pages are often taken offline within hours or a day.

• The full URL, including anything after the domain name.
• What the page showed: the fake OLX branding, your item, the amount and the card or bank login form.
• Bank statements, card transactions, transfer confirmations, BLIK or app notifications and any SMS codes.
• The recipient account number, phone number or wallet details if you paid by transfer.

Where to report an OLX scam

1. Your bank: dispute the transactions, ask about a chargeback for card payments or a recall for transfers, and get a reference number.
2. OLX: report the listing and the user from the listing page or the chat, and contact OLX support with the listing ID and your evidence.
3. Police: file a criminal complaint with the chat export, the URLs, the captures and the bank statements. Bring the files, not just printouts.
4. WhatsApp or Telegram: report the account in the app after you have exported the conversation.

In Poland you can also report phishing to CERT Polska; in Romania, to the national cybersecurity directorate DNSC. If you live in another EU country and bought from an OLX market abroad, report to the police where you live; they can cooperate across borders.

OLX delivery protection and getting money back

OLX offers its own delivery and payment in several markets under local names, for example Przesyłka OLX in Poland or Livrare prin OLX in Romania. Your money is held and passed to the seller only after delivery, and you can raise a problem through OLX.
